Crochet sweater without shoulders

What do you need?

  • 3,5 balls of yarn
  • Crochet needle 5
  • siccor
  • needle
  • two markers

What stitches do you have to know?

ch = chain
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
sl st = slip stitch
Big V = hdc, ch 1, hdc in same stitch

The body

We start with the body, from bottom to top. Crochet around, so you don’t have to sew the sides together. Fit your chain around your hips, to see if it is the correct size. The pattern is easily adjustable. Only make sure it’s divisible by 2. I have a size 8 and for this size you ch 100. Close with a sl st and ch 2.

Row 1: Crochet hdc al around. Close with a sl st. Ch 2.
Row 2 – 5: Crochet board. See the video beneath how to crochet the board. It’s in Dutch, but you can see how the stitch works. End row 5 with a sl st.

Row 6: ch 3, hdc in same stitch you started the ch 3. *skip 1 stitch, crochet a Big V*. Repeat the parts between ** till the end of the row. Do not close with a sl st, just crochet further on the next row.
Row 7 – 47: *Big V in ch space of the previous row, skip 1 stitch*. Repeat the parts between ** till the end.

Front part

We are going to make the armholes, so you can’t crochet around anymore. Place your work on the table and put a marker on both outside of the body. Make sure your yarn of row 47 is 1 Big V further then the side of the sweater. Close every with ch 2 and turn your work.

Row 48: Crochet the same as row 7 of the body, but crochet only between the markers. Quit crocheting this row 1 Big V before the side.
Row 49: Skip 1 Big V, crochet further in the next Big V, same as row 7 of the body. Crochet in the last Big V a hdc.
Row 50: Crochet 1 hdc in the ch space. Continue in the next Big V. Crochet like row 7 of the body. Crochet in the last Big V only a hdc.
Row 51: Same as row 50. End with a hdc on the first hdc of the last row. Don’t do anything with the ch 2 of the beginning of the last row. Leave them for what they are.
Row 52 – 54: Repeat row 51.
Row 55: Like row 7 of the body. End with a hdc on the first hdc of the last row.
Row 56: Like row 7 of the body. End with a hdc on the 2nd ch of the first ch 2 in row 55.
Row 57 – 59: Repeat row 56.
Row 60 – 64: Crochet 4 big V. Crochet in the last big V 1 hdc. Ch 2 and turn your work. Finish after row 64, but leave a big tail of yarn to sew it later on to the back part.

Repeat row 60 – 64 on the other side of the front part. Attach your yarn on the other side and start with a ch 2.

Back part

Attach your yarn on the back side of the sweater. Skip 1 big V (in the armpit). Attach your yarn in the next big V.

Row 48: Ch 2. Repeat row 48 of the front part. Also quit one Big V before you enter the front part on the other side. Crochet a hdc in last big V.
Row 49 – 59: Same as row 49 – 59 of the front part.
Row 60 – 62: Like row 56 of the front part.
Row 63 – 64: Like row 60 of the front part. Finish after row 64.

Repeat row 63 and 64 on the other side of the backpart. Same thing you did with the other front part.

Sew row 64 of the front parts to the back part. Attach your yarn in your  neck, doesn’t matter where you start, and crochet sc al around. Close with a sl st and finish your work.

Sleeve

The sleeve is also easy to adjust to your size. Measure around your wrist. Make sure it is divisible by 2. I ch 26. Close with a sl st to a ring.

Row 7 – 29: *Big V in ch space of the previous row, skip 1 stitch*. Repeat the parts between ** till the end.
Row 30: Crochet in the first ch space an extra big V. So you crochet: hdc, ch 1, hdc, hdc, ch 1, hdc in the first stitch. Continue like row 7.
Row 31 – 32: Like row 7.
Row 33: like row 30
Row 34 – 47: Like row 7. End row 47 with a sl st and finish your work. Leave a long tail of yarn, so you can sew it to the sweater.

cof

Crochet another sleeve this same way. Sew the sleeves to the sweater. You have to sew the sleeve in the armpit (so in the stitches you’ve skipped). Sew on both sides until row 52 of the front and back part. Then you finish and you leave the rest of the stitches untouched. It is easier if you pur a marker on row 52, so you can see the stitches you have to sew.

Board shoulders

Attach your yarn in the hole of the shoulders. Doesn’t matter where you start.
Row 1: Ch 2. Crochet hdc around and close with a sl st in the end.
Row 2 – 3: Ch 2. Crochet board. End with a sl st and at the end of row 3 finish your work.

Repeat this at the other shoulder.

And that was it. This will be your sweater:
